This error indicates a problem with the printer's internal calibration sensor, often an Optical Media Advance Sensor (OMAS) or spectrophotometer. This sensor is crucial for accurate media advance, color calibration, and printhead alignment.
- 1
Open the top cover and carefully inspect the print zone. Clean the calibration sensor (usually a small optical lens) with a lint-free cloth.
- 2
Ensure the media path is clear of any obstructions, paper dust, or ink smears that might block the sensor's view.
- 3
Turn off the printer, unplug the power cord, wait 5 minutes, then plug it back in and power it on.
Model-Specific Notes: • Z-Series (e.g., Z9+/Z6Pro): These models feature advanced spectrophotometers for color calibration. Ensure the sensor's aperture is absolutely clean. Check for any physical damage to the sensor head. • T-Series (e.g., T1600/T2600): The OMAS sensor is often located on the carriage or near the platen. Ensure the platen area is spotless, as reflections can interfere with readings. Expert Insight: The calibration sensor is highly sensitive. Even a tiny speck of dust or a fingerprint can cause this error. When cleaning, use compressed air first to dislodge loose debris, then a lint-free cloth with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol. If the error persists, check the sensor's ribbon cable connection to the carriage board or formatter. In some cases, the sensor itself may have failed and requires replacement.

The component that deposits ink onto the media. DesignJet printers use thermal inkjet printheads that fire tiny droplets of ink through microscopic nozzles.
The process of adjusting the printer's color output to match a known standard, ensuring consistent and accurate color reproduction.
A precision instrument that measures the spectral properties of color. Some DesignJet Z-Series printers include a built-in spectrophotometer for automatic color calibration.
A calibration process that ensures all printheads are precisely aligned relative to each other for accurate color registration and sharp output.
Optical or mechanical sensors that detect the presence, type, width, and position of print media loaded in the printer.
When the printhead physically contacts the media surface during printing, potentially damaging both the print and the printhead.
