Service Station Malfunction

The service station motor is often visible. • Z-Series (e.g., Z6800/Z9+): These models have more complex service stations with multiple cleaning cycles. Check the printhead cleaner assembly for any jams or broken parts. • Legacy Models (e.g., 500/800 series): The service station can become heavily saturated with ink. Look for signs of ink leaking onto the encoder strip or other electronics. Expert Insight: With the printer off and unplugged, manually try to cycle the service station mechanisms (if safely accessible) to feel for resistance or binding. Use a flashlight to inspect for small pieces of paper or dried ink that might be jamming gears. Check the service station's trailing cable for any damage or loose connections. A common failure point is the small plastic gears within the service station assembly becoming stripped or cracked due to constant use and ink residue. For models with a dedicated service station motor, measure its resistance if accessible. Ensure the printhead's 'spittoon' (waste ink collector) is not overflowing, as this can cause sensors to trip or mechanical parts to jam.
