Ensure the sensor lens on the carriage is also clean. • Legacy Models (e.g., DesignJet 500/800): The encoder strip can become brittle over time. Handle with extreme care during cleaning. Expert Insight: After cleaning the encoder strip, use a magnifying glass to inspect it for any remaining residue or subtle damage. For the encoder sensor itself, a small amount of compressed air can dislodge dust from its optical path. If the error persists, the trailing cable should be inspected for continuity using a multimeter, as intermittent breaks can cause this error. The sensor's connection to the carriage PCA should also be verified.
